FAVOUR CODE CLUB GROUP NEWSLETTER
Good day everyone.
Welcome to the first edition of Favour Code Club Group Newsletter!
St Charles College Abavo Code Club started on October 6th 2023.
We Are
Learners of the code club known as Creators of the favour group amongst other groups.
It is of a great interest that this honourable institution of learning has giving us the opportunity to have a code club where we can learn how to code.
Code Club classes are normally held on Thursday or Friday for an hour and no more after school hours. When it started, we had just one group, but as time goes on, we now have Creators A and B which is great.
We do really have fun whenever it’s time for code club.
What is Code Club?
Code club is a global network of free coding clubs for young people aged 9 and above.
We learn how to add code, costumes, and sounds to sprites as we make animations etc.
We complete projects and the process of computer’s basic workings such as file opening and saving processing for future use.
Using scratch software as a tool to code our projects.
Volunteers help us to organise our classes which is ran remotely by an organiser.
Code Club Projects?
Our digital making projects have step-by-step instructions by our organiser to teach us how to create games, animations and much more.
Completed Projects
Space Talk:
Use Scratch to give sprites (Pico, Nano and Giga) an 'emote' so that they communicate when clicked.
Catch the Bus:
Code sprites (Cat, Hippo and Bus) to walk or fly to the bus before it drives off.
It is always an interesting learning process because it is fun and encouraging from project to project.
Our Limitations
We now use computers regularly during our code club classes despite network limitations.
Observation
We learn a lot in code club. Creators arrive early 5 minutes before 1 pm or 3pm i.e., during lesson days.
Before we start coding, we log into scratch software (coding tool) with our username and password that our club organiser sent to us via our email account for our class.
Our lessons are though online using Google Meet with project link, creators browse to the project link and follow the instructions and code it in Scratch.
Our first project was space talk where we made Pico talk “how are you, my name is joy” and soon. We also introduced Giga and made Pico, Nano and Giga change their colours.
Secondly we coded cat catching the bus. And many other projects.
