Bringing together home and school

St Charles’s College Parents Teachers Association

St. Charles College Abavo is proud to support an active PTA (Parent Teacher Association).

Both parents and teachers discuss, trying to make necessary plans and programs for the progress and ongoing development of the school.

In order words, PTA meeting is a forum where school (teachers) and home (parents) relate.

The school requires greatly the cooperation and support of parents / guidians to effectively create an enabling environment for the development of the children.

To this effect, every parent is a compulsory member of the PTA and must attend meetings. It is important to note that the school does not allow adolescents to represent parents / guidians at school meetings.

We also provide an additional and valuable means of communication between the parents and teaching staff within the school.

Ordinarily, their visit would have been great since they were trying to curb the spread of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) through vaccination. However, the concern was :

(1) why focus only on girls within the ages of 9 - 14years?

(2) Are there adverse effects when one gets vaccinated, now or in the future? etc.

The principal of the school, however insisted that before any vaccination is carried out on his students, since girls within the ages of 9 - 14years are still minors, their parents must have adequate and proper information they need to make informed choices about their children and give their consent.

How to get involved

Often parents are nervous about offering their services to the PTA, imagining that they may have too much time taken up. However, even if you can just help out on the odd occasion it’s all appreciated. You can also volunteer to be on the committee or to take on a more regular role – none are too time consuming. Please don’t be shy in putting yourself forward!
